Antler Repair Questions
Do you offer full reproductions of a set of antlers?
At this time WCL does not offer inhouse reproductions however we can outsource your set of antlers. Reproduction antlers are a set of antlers you are very proud of and would like a copy made for someone special or to show case in a place other than your home. There are many reasons why customers would have a copy set of antlers.
What is your lead time on an Antler repair?
Lead times are going to vary on several situations. Average lead time could be from a couple of weeks to couple of months. Please e-mail me a picture or set up an appointment to discuss your needs.
What types of antler repairs do you tackle?
We repair and stain almost any kind of antler situation. From bleached, broken, cracked, missing points, matching side to side and everything inbetween. Our repairs are hand sculpted and painted to give you a strong and realistic look. We do not do full antler reproductions however you will love the results of our antler repair!
How do you repair antlers?
When repairing broken beams, tips and tines due to many factors we use quality sculpting materials, reinforced wire and high quality stains and paints. There are many color variations that have to matched precisely in order to blend the transitions or to completey change the look of the whole antler set. We work with deer farmers who present us with bleached out antlers, to hikers who simply bring in found sets that have been chewed or diminished by the elements to the standard trophy hunter who wants that perfect rack on his wall.
Shoulder Mounts
How long does a shoulder mount take to complete?
We understand our customers seek their trophy's completion as soon as possible! Lead times are VERY important to us. We also understand that some of our customers don't have a real sense of urgency and time isn't critical. Depending on your needs can be discussed. Our work load also dicatates completion. If you are seeking a critical lead time please call. We will take a look at where we are at. We have heard many, many times that customers do not see their mounts for over a year. That is something we will NOT do. If we can not handle the work load we will be upfront and honest with you.
How do I clean and care for my new mount?
A simple wipe down of a damp cloth to brush the dust off. Keeping your mount free of cob webs and the eyes gently polished keeps the deer looking sharp. If you see any flaws or defects throughout the years please contact us. We stand by our work!
How can I get the deer to you if I live far away?
Call or email us your location. We do travel to pick up mounts based on your location, our schedule and work loads.
Do you mount pets, fish or exotic animals?
At this time we do not handle these. WCL would like to be known as a master of one trade and not a jack of all. Perhaps the future will bring more taxidermy options to you but right now we would like to contain our company to the core of Deer Shoulder Mount, Antler and European Mounts.
How do I field dress a deer for the taxidermist?
Please see our Field Dressing Page which includes a video.
European Mounts
What is a European Skull Mount?
A European Mount consists of the skull attached to the antlers. It is cleaned, boiled, degreased and whitened.
What if I have a set of antlers but not the attached skull?
I can attach the antlers to a faux European skull.
Mounting Boards
What styles of mounting boards do you carry?
We carry all sorts of shapes and styles for Deer Shoulder Mounts, Antler Mounts and European Skull Mounts. From red and traditional barnboards to pine board styles. We offer all states as well.
